Kuwait City: The Kuwaiti Permanent National Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants has reviewed the main challenges and barriers affecting the implementation of its updated National Strategy for 2025-2028.
In its 22nd meeting, chaired by Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Vice-Chair Awatif Al-Sand, the committee evaluated detailed action plans for combating human trafficking and migrant smuggling. They also discussed preparations to mark the International Day to Combat Trafficking in Persons on July 30.
The Ministry of Justice highlighted that Kuwait has been actively pursuing anti-trafficking efforts since the Cabinet approved Resolution No. 261 in 2018, which mandated the National Strategy to Prevent Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants. This strategy is implemented through joint efforts led by the Ministry of Justice in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other national bodies.
Key stakeholders in the committee include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Health, Information, the Public Authority for Manpower, and the Public Prosecution. Together, they aim to achieve Kuwait’s vision of becoming a society free from human trafficking and migrant smuggling, fully aligned with Law No. 91 of 2013 and related international treaties.
The committee’s primary tasks include enforcing protective measures for victims, raising public awareness about trafficking dangers, strengthening coordination among ministries and institutions, and enhancing national, regional, and international cooperation to combat these crimes.
With the upcoming World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, Kuwait reaffirms its commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and eliminating trafficking through effective policy, law enforcement, and victim support programs.
