Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed the redesign and modernization of 22 bus stations as part of its strategy to elevate Dubai’s public transport network and deliver a more integrated and user-friendly travel experience.
The project involved upgrading 16 major passenger stations and 6 bus depots across Deira and Bur Dubai. Enhancements included new waiting areas, updated façades, improved infrastructure, new pavements, and dedicated prayer areas at some stations.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, explained that the upgrades aim to transform bus stations from basic stops into well-equipped service hubs that offer smoother connections with Dubai’s Metro and taxi systems.
In Deira, 9 stations were upgraded, while Bur Dubai saw improvements at 7 stations. These upgraded facilities support around 110 bus routes and handle up to 710 buses during peak hours. The project also prioritizes features for cyclists and people with special needs to ensure more accessible and inclusive travel options.
By modernizing the stations, the RTA seeks to encourage greater use of sustainable transport and strengthen Dubai’s position as a smart mobility leader. The redesigned hubs are expected to improve passenger safety, reduce waiting times, and provide a more comfortable environment, aligning with Dubai’s broader vision for an advanced, sustainable urban transport network that meets the demands of the city’s rapid development.
