The Indian government has prompted Meta to block the popular Instagram page @Muslim, which has over 670,000 followers, citing violations of local laws. Users in India attempting to access the page are now met with a message stating that it has been restricted in compliance with a legal request.
The page, run by Editor-in-Chief Ameer Al Khatahtbeh, is known for covering political, social, and cultural news relevant to the global Muslim community. Al Khatahtbeh criticized the ban as an act of censorship and has called on Meta to restore the account, emphasizing the page’s mission to “record the truth and stand for justice.”
This development follows a series of restrictions imposed on Pakistani celebrities and politicians on Indian social media platforms, including bans on the Instagram accounts of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, actor Fawad Khan, and cricketers Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan.
India has also banned several Pakistani news channels on YouTube, accusing them of spreading provocative content. The surge in misinformation online, including deepfakes and outdated visuals, has worsened as tensions between India and Pakistan intensify.
