RTA expands pedestrian safety campaign for construction workers The campaign delivers multilingual safety messages across high-risk areas, with support from major developers like Emaar to reach over 20,000 workers. Dubai: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has intensified its pedestrian safety awareness efforts in 2025, targeting tens of thousands of construction workers in partnership with major property developers and contractors. The campaign aims to educate workers on traffic safety rules and reduce fatal run-over incidents across the emirate. Statistical studies by RTA reveal that a significant number of pedestrian deaths occur due to road crossings from undesignated areas and misjudging vehicle speeds. Al Quoz and Nadd Hessa emerged as hotspots, each recording two pedestrian fatalities, with other incidents scattered across various Dubai roads. RTA’s long-term road safety strategy has yielded significant progress, bringing down the pedestrian fatality rate from 9.5 deaths per 100,000 population in 2007 to just 0.35 in 2024. These achievements are attributed to a combination of enforcement, education, and infrastructure development, supported by a comprehensive Traffic Safety Strategy that tracks key indicators including pedestrian-related fatalities and overall road safety metrics. In 2025, the authority rolled out systematic operational plans for awareness programs, tailored by age groups and aligned with strategic safety goals. A core focus this year has been expanding the ‘Pedestrian Safety Program’ in collaboration with private sector partners. Emaar Properties has been recognized for its active support of the campaign, distributing multilingual giveaways featuring safety instructions and QR codes linking to awareness videos. The joint initiative with Emaar targets 20,000 construction workers in its first year, particularly those engaged in road and infrastructure projects under its development portfolio. In 2024 alone, RTA conducted 24 awareness events, directly reaching over 12,500 workers. The campaign also saw the distribution of flyers and educational material at high-traffic locations such as bus stops, eateries, and retail outlets near worker accommodations in areas including Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Al Muhaisnah, and Warsan. Materials are offered in Arabic, English, and Urdu, ensuring accessibility for Dubai’s diverse workforce. By continuing to integrate safety education into the fabric of city development, RTA reaffirms its commitment to reducing pedestrian fatalities and ensuring safer streets for all.

Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has strengthened its pedestrian safety campaign this year, focusing on protecting construction workers in high-risk areas. In partnership with major developers and contractors, including Emaar, the initiative aims to raise awareness about traffic safety rules and reduce deadly run-over accidents.

According to RTA data, most pedestrian deaths are caused by crossing roads at undesignated points and misjudging vehicle speeds, with areas like Al Quoz and Nadd Hessa flagged as high-risk zones. Thanks to its robust road safety strategy, Dubai has reduced pedestrian deaths from 9.5 per 100,000 people in 2007 to just 0.35 by 2024.

Building on this success, the RTA’s 2025 plan focuses on targeted education, distributing safety materials in Arabic, English, and Urdu. The campaign includes giveaways with QR codes linking to awareness videos, flyers at bus stops and worker housing, and on-ground events in worker-heavy areas such as Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Al Muhaisnah, and Warsan.

Emaar’s involvement has been crucial in delivering safety messages to over 20,000 construction workers in its developments. In 2024 alone, the RTA reached 12,500 workers through 24 events.

By working closely with the private sector, the RTA is determined to make Dubai’s streets safer and maintain its impressive record in cutting pedestrian fatalities.
