Manama: The Bahraini government has issued a public warning about a sharp increase in online frauds, particularly with the approach of Eid al-Adha and summer holidays. Major Fatima Al Dosari, Head of Crime Surveillance at the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security, emphasized the importance of purchasing goods and services only from reputable and verified sources.

She highlighted a rise in fake online ads for products like abayas and services including holiday packages. These fraudulent ads often redirect consumers to fake websites that steal sensitive bank information or use WhatsApp to demand advance payments. Travel scams are becoming especially common, with fraudsters posing as travel agents offering deals that turn out to be fake only when victims reach the airport.

Additionally, authorities have reported scams involving the booking of swimming pools and the online sale of cattle for Eid. Scammers use images taken from the internet to advertise non-existent services and collect payments in advance. Consumers are strongly advised to verify the authenticity of sellers and avoid sharing personal or financial details online.
