The Ministry of Education in Kuwait has issued a circular prohibiting the collection of charitable donations within schools by students, parents, or staff. This decision follows directives from the Ministry of Social Affairs aimed at temporarily suspending donation activities to develop a comprehensive monitoring mechanism for charitable work and ensure its sustainability.
Acting Undersecretary for Educational Development and Activities, Maryam Al-Enezi, communicated this directive to educational districts, the Department of Private and Religious Education, and the Department of Special Education Schools. She emphasized the importance of protecting the integrity of the educational environment and preventing it from being used for activities beyond its core mission.
Key directives outlined in the circular include:
A strict ban on collecting donations—financial or in-kind—within all schools and kindergartens.
A prohibition on hosting any exhibitions or events with a charitable purpose, including donation drives, without prior approval from the Ministry of Education, in accordance with Circular No. 59 dated November 2, 2023.
The Ministry warned that any violations of these regulations would result in legal accountability for the school under existing rules and regulations. The move is part of broader efforts to regulate and maintain oversight over charitable activities in the country.
