Dubai: His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, has issued a pardon for 985 prisoners ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebrations.

The move is part of a longstanding tradition of granting amnesty during significant national and religious occasions in the UAE, including Ramadan and National Day. The amnesty reflects Sheikh Mohammed’s compassionate approach, aiming to bring joy to families and provide the pardoned individuals with an opportunity to begin a new chapter in life.

Essam Issa Al Humaidan, Chancellor of the Dubai Attorney General, emphasized that the decision embodies the ruler’s humanitarian values and desire to support rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.

Dubai Public Prosecution, in coordination with Dubai Police, has already begun the legal procedures to implement the pardon. Generally, such pardons exclude individuals involved in serious criminal offenses.
