Abu Dhabi to Host Largest AI Campus Outside the US, OpenAI Expected to Guide Project

Abu Dhabi is set to become home to the largest artificial intelligence campus outside the United States, following a landmark agreement between the UAE and the US. The initiative was launched during a visit to the UAE where US President Donald Trump and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed a deal to develop a massive data center in the region.

Reports suggest that OpenAI, the Microsoft-backed AI company, may guide the UAE government in building the AI campus. While the partnership has not been officially confirmed, sources indicate that OpenAI may soon formalize its involvement in supervising the 5-gigawatt data center project in Abu Dhabi.

The project will be developed by G42, a government-backed company in Abu Dhabi, and will include collaboration with US firms for data center operations and cloud services. Initially, the campus will feature a 1-gigawatt AI data center and is planned to expand across 10 square miles.

According to the US Department of Commerce, this initiative will significantly boost the presence of American AI and cloud technology firms in the Middle East and improve their reach into regions like South India. The establishment of this AI campus is a major milestone in the UAE's mission to become a global leader in artificial intelligence and innovation.
