Saudi Arabia Requires Pilgrims to Declare Valuables Over 60,000 Riyals During Hajj

Dubai: With millions of pilgrims expected to arrive for the upcoming Hajj season, Saudi Arabia has issued a new directive to enhance transparency and ensure smooth customs procedures. The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced that anyone entering or leaving the country with more than 60,000 Saudi riyals (approximately $16,000) in cash or valuables must declare the items to customs authorities.

This rule applies not only to physical currency but also to precious metals, gemstones, and gold bars. The ministry emphasized that failure to comply with the declaration requirement may result in fines, legal action, or delays at the airport or border crossings.

The directive is part of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to uphold economic regulations and improve security and transparency during the Hajj and Umrah seasons. Authorities explained that filing a customs declaration protects the rights of pilgrims and ensures their compliance with national laws.

This guidance is part of our ongoing awareness campaign to help pilgrims enjoy a safe, smooth, and lawful Hajj journey,” the ministry said in an official statement.

Pilgrims are strongly advised to prepare all necessary documentation in advance and declare any valuables or funds exceeding the limit to avoid potential issues, including confiscation of undeclared items.

As the spiritual journey of a lifetime approaches for many, the ministry urges all pilgrims to stay informed and follow the rules to ensure a peaceful and legally sound pilgrimage experience.
