Abu Dhabi Police Warns Against Fake Eid Offers and Charity Scams

Abu Dhabi: As Eid Al-Adha approaches, Abu Dhabi Police have issued a strong warning to residents to stay vigilant against fraudulent advertisements and scams related to charitable initiatives and low-cost sacrificial animal offers.

The alert comes amid a noticeable rise in scams targeting the public through fake social media accounts and unauthorized digital platforms. Authorities have observed a significant increase in such activities, especially during holiday seasons, where cybercriminals exploit the generosity and festive spirit of residents.

The police emphasized that many of these scams involve advertisements offering sacrificial animals (Udhiyah) at suspiciously low prices or fake charity appeals. These often appear on unverified online shopping apps, websites, and through spam calls, using fake business licenses and misleading information to trick users.

With the increasing use of social media and online shopping, scammers are adopting more sophisticated methods to exploit the public’s goodwill. Authorities urged residents to make donations and Eid-related purchases only through official smart apps and verified platforms. Approved services by organizations like the UAE Red Crescent and local municipalities ensure safety and transparency.

In case of suspicious activity, residents are encouraged to report it immediately via the Abu Dhabi Police smart app, the 24/7 'Aman' service, or by visiting the nearest police station. All reports will be handled confidentially.
