Abu Dhabi: Public and private schools across Abu Dhabi have begun strictly enforcing an existing regulation that bans students from bringing mobile phones, smartwatches, and electronic gaming devices to school. This move aims to foster positive behavior, ensure student safety, and protect privacy on school campuses.
The enforcement follows Ministerial Order No. (851) of 2018 and directives from the Ministry of Education. Schools have clarified that the policy is final and non-negotiable. Any student found with a banned device will have it confiscated, with return only possible at the end of the academic term in case of repeat violations.
To ensure compliance, students and their parents are now required to sign an official pledge acknowledging the rules. Disciplinary actions will be taken based on the Student Behavior Management Regulations. The procedure includes notifying parents, signing official forms (Form 24 at confiscation and Form 25 at return), and escalating serious cases — such as those involving photos of staff or students — to the Child Protection Unit.
In addition to mobile phones, the ban explicitly covers smartwatches and electronic gaming devices, all of which will be confiscated immediately if found. The policy is part of a wider initiative to maintain discipline and create an effective and focused educational environment.
