Kuwait Eases Family Visit Visa Rules, Expands Stay Duration to One Year

Kuwait has introduced a more flexible family visit visa policy, now allowing visitors to stay for three months with the option to extend up to one year by paying a fee. This decision is part of a wider effort to reform the Kuwait Visa platform and attract more tourists and commercial visitors.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yousef Al-Sabah confirmed several key policy changes in a call with the media, including the removal of the university degree requirement, lifting the restriction that tied visa holders to local Kuwaiti airlines, and expanding eligibility for visit visas to relatives up to the fourth degree.

These changes aim to make Kuwait more welcoming and competitive, encouraging the return of foreign airlines and positioning the country as a regional hub for tourism and trade. The minister emphasized that the State should not act as a marketer for airlines, and visa access should be fair and inclusive.

Visitors who meet basic financial support requirements or are backed by a sponsor will be allowed entry, while those without sufficient backing may be declined. Visa pricing proposals will be submitted to the Council of Ministers for final approval.

The Kuwait Visa platform will continue to be updated based on public feedback, with the goal of creating a user-friendly system that sets a regional benchmark. As part of this new directive, Middle East Airlines is now authorized to carry family visit visa holders, a privilege once limited to Kuwaiti carriers.
