KUWAIT CITY: Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Al-Mishaal, Undersecretary of Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense, reaffirmed the growing strength of Kuwaiti-Chinese defense relations, describing them as a key pillar of the country’s strategy to modernize its military system.

Speaking during a celebration hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait to mark the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Al-Mishaal revealed that several joint military projects are underway, most notably a new Kuwaiti-Chinese factory for medium and light ammunition, set to open soon.

“Our defense cooperation with China is vital and continues to expand in areas such as joint training programs and infrastructure development,” Al-Mishaal noted, referencing major national projects like Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port.

He stressed that Kuwait seeks balanced defense partnerships both in the East and West to protect national interests, while maintaining strong ties with Gulf and Arab states.

On defense system modernization, Al-Mishaal said that Kuwaiti-Chinese ties serve as a foundation for defense agreements across the region. Since 1991, Kuwait has pursued a dual path of defense agreements and arms contracts with major global powers.

Chinese Chargé d'Affaires Liu Xiang highlighted Kuwait’s constructive regional role and praised its support for key Chinese global initiatives—including the Development, Security, and Civilization Initiatives. He emphasized China’s commitment to multilateralism and thanked Kuwait for its continued cooperation.

Welcoming Brigadier General Liu Zongzhen, the embassy’s new defense attaché, Liu expressed confidence in further deepening military ties through training and industrial collaboration.

Brigadier General Liu echoed these sentiments, calling the current phase of military relations with Kuwait one of “advanced cooperation” involving exchanges, industrial projects, and joint training. He emphasized China's peaceful military doctrine under President Xi Jinping, including active participation in UN peacekeeping, navigation security, and global humanitarian efforts.

In a broader reflection, Liu Xiang concluded, “War is like a mirror. Looking at it helps us appreciate the value of peace,” underscoring a shared vision between China and Kuwait for a cooperative and secure global future.
