Human Trafficking Network Busted in Kuwait: 12 Arrested for Visa Scam

KUWAIT CITY: Just 48 hours after dismantling one human trafficking ring, Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior has uncovered a second organized network involved in illegally issuing residency permits for money, forging documents, and using false employment data.

In a statement, the Ministry’s General Department of Public Relations and Security Media confirmed that this crackdown follows directives from First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousef, as part of the Ministry’s intensified efforts to combat human trafficking and related visa fraud schemes.

The case came to light when a Pakistani resident filed a complaint claiming he paid KD 650 to a compatriot to secure a residency permit. The suspect was summoned for questioning and confessed to taking money to process the application. Investigators discovered that the main suspect is a partner in 11 companies, which collectively have 162 workers on record.

Several workers registered under these companies admitted to paying sums ranging from KD 500 to KD 900 each to get residency permits illegally. Some also paid extra amounts of KD 60 to KD 70 to forge salary details on work permits, enabling them to apply for “family reunification” residencies.

Twelve individuals connected to the case have been referred to the Public Prosecution. A Kuwaiti citizen acting as the authorized signatory for the 11 companies admitted to accepting monthly payments of KD 500 to KD 600 in exchange for handling manpower transactions, including work permits, through the government’s Sahal app.

The Ministry stated that inspections of the involved companies’ premises are ongoing and legal measures are being taken to dismantle the entire network and hold everyone involved accountable. Authorities reiterated their commitment to stamping out human trafficking and safeguarding the integrity of Kuwait’s labor and residency systems.
