Athens: The Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has announced that its vessel, Bahra, successfully rescued 45 refugees from a sinking boat in the Mediterranean Sea near Greece.

Acting CEO Sheikh Khaled Ahmed Al-Sabah confirmed that the Greek Search and Rescue Center alerted the tanker about the stranded boat roughly 60 miles off the Greek coast. Responding immediately, Bahra’s crew brought all refugees safely aboard, providing them with food, water, and shelter.

All rescued individuals were reported in stable health and were disembarked safely on Crete, where they were handed over to Greek authorities in line with international maritime laws.

Sheikh Khaled highlighted that this operation shows KOTC’s commitment to balancing operational duties with humanitarian responsibilities. He noted that this was not the first such mission for the company; KOTC tankers have carried out similar rescues before, including saving 40 refugees earlier this June and 536 people in 2014.

The company emphasized that protecting life at sea and safeguarding the marine environment remain top priorities woven into its operational strategy.
