Customs officers have foiled an attempt to smuggle 47 kilograms of marijuana into the country through air cargo. Inspectors grew suspicious of a shipment arriving from the United States via a courier service. What appeared to be a decorative display item was found to contain marijuana concealed beneath a cork board.

Following the discovery, the General Department for Drug Control quickly intervened. The first suspect was arrested at the courier company after completing the paperwork to receive the shipment. A second suspect, who was sent to collect the parcel in the Jahra Industrial Area, attempted to flee and violently resisted arrest, even colliding with patrol vehicles and putting lives at risk. Security forces managed to subdue him, later confirming that he has a criminal record for previous drug trafficking cases.

Both individuals have been referred to the General Department for Drug Control for further legal action and will face prosecution at the Drug Prosecution Office once investigations are completed. The Ministry of Interior stressed that efforts to combat drug smuggling will continue without let-up.
