UAE Authorities Dismiss False Claims Linking Crypto Investments to Golden Visa

Abu Dhabi: UAE authorities have categorically denied recent online rumors suggesting that investors in cryptocurrencies can qualify for the country’s prestigious golden visa. In a joint statement, the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), the Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA), and the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA) made it clear that such claims are entirely false.

The clarification comes after misleading ads and posts on social media platforms falsely stated that holders of virtual assets could secure long-term UAE residency. The ICP emphasized that golden visas are granted only under well-defined, officially approved categories, which do not include digital currency investments.

The eligible categories remain unchanged and cover real estate investors, entrepreneurs, exceptional talent holders, scientists and specialists, outstanding students and graduates, humanitarian pioneers, and frontline workers.

The SCA reaffirmed its commitment to global best practices in supervising the UAE’s financial and securities sectors. It also clarified that although virtual asset investments fall under regulated frameworks, they do not influence golden visa eligibility. The authority urged investors to rely only on credible official sources to avoid being misled by fraudulent offers.

VARA echoed this warning, stating there is no link between crypto holdings and residency rights in Dubai or the wider UAE. It advised investors to work only with licensed and regulated firms and warned against trusting unverified claims or illegal operators. VARA also noted that TON, a company often cited in misleading promotions, is not licensed or regulated by VARA.

The three regulators jointly stressed that anyone seeking a UAE golden visa should consult only official government websites or verified channels for accurate application guidelines. They also encouraged the public to report any suspicious online advertisements or posts claiming to offer visas through crypto investments.

For verified details, residents and investors are urged to visit the ICP’s official website for up-to-date information about golden visa categories, requirements, and procedures.
