Expat in Jahra Loses Entire Bank Balance to Online Scam

Kuwait City: An expatriate living in Jahra has fallen victim to a sophisticated online scam, losing his entire bank balance of KD 226.500 within minutes.

According to a security source, the 54-year-old victim was browsing social media when he saw a product listed at an unusually high price. Hoping to buy it, he clicked a payment link and tried to complete the transaction but received a ‘payment failed’ message. Moments later, he was shocked to discover that his account had been emptied in two separate withdrawals — despite him never sharing his one-time password (OTP).

The case, registered as Felony No. 149/2025, is now under investigation by local authorities. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant against suspicious links and fraudulent payment gateways, especially when shopping online.
