Dubai: The Emirates Group has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability through its annual ‘Tomorrow Takes Flight’ showcase, which highlighted how the airline and dnata are working to align operations with the United Nations 2025 theme to #BeatPlasticPollution.

Held as an internal knowledge-sharing platform, the event featured sustainability projects from across the Group’s departments — engineering, catering, cargo, travel, operations — and emphasized the role of partnerships and interdepartmental collaboration.

On stage, leaders from Emirates Engineering, Flight Operations, Service Delivery, Emirates SkyCargo, and dnata Technical Services shared how they are integrating sustainability into core operations, supported by industry partners like Airbus, Boeing, Rolls-Royce, GE Aerospace, Dubai Airports, and the University of Cambridge.

Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ Deputy President and Chief Operations Officer, said the event was about “celebrating progress and inspiring future action,” stressing how every part of operations — from cabin interiors to ground services — can help reduce emissions and conserve resources as part of the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy.

dnata CEO Steve Allen echoed this, highlighting investments in renewable energy, electric ground equipment, alternative fuels, and food waste reduction as key steps towards responsible growth.

Event highlights included:

  • ‘Aircrafted by Emirates’, transforming retired aircraft parts into useful, stylish items.
  • New onboard products made from recycled or alternative materials.
  • Plastic cleanup campaigns in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve.
  • A biodigester demo from Emirates Flight Catering for food waste processing.
  • Tastings of sustainable menu items from MMI, Emirates Leisure Retail, dnata Catering & Retail.
  • dnata Cargo’s recycling systems and marhaba lounges’ food waste cuts.
  • dnata Travel’s global efforts like river waste interceptors in Sri Lanka.
  • Ecyclex and Reloop demonstrating e-waste recycling with Emirates IT.
  • A ‘Bottle Wall’ project where staff upcycled plastic bottles into plant pots.

The exhibition’s interactive elements, quizzes, games, and the Tomorrow Takes Flight Challenge inspired employees to adopt a circular mindset, proving that sustainability at Emirates Group is a shared responsibility fueled by creativity and innovation at every level.
