Dubai: Dubai Municipality marked World Hydrography Day with a dedicated event themed ‘Enhancing Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability in Maritime Activities,’ underscoring the vital role of hydrographic surveying in safeguarding navigation and supporting sustainable coastal development.
As part of the occasion, Dubai Municipality showcased its pioneering work in creating accurate nautical charts and promoting responsible marine resource management in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A proud member of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) since February 2023 — the first in the UAE and the wider Middle East to earn this status — the Municipality reaffirmed its commitment to developing advanced hydrographic systems that enhance maritime safety and environmental stewardship.
During the event, the Municipality highlighted its initiatives for delivering precise marine data and regularly updating nautical charts to support safe navigation and protect Dubai’s coastal and marine ecosystems.
Attendees also learned about the latest technological tools and methods used in marine infrastructure projects, which help ensure sustainable development of coastal zones and efficient use of marine resources.
Dubai Municipality emphasized its alignment with IHO objectives through active participation in global hydrographic forums and knowledge exchange initiatives that foster sustainable ocean practices. These efforts position Dubai as a regional leader in marine innovation and reinforce its reputation for excellence in hydrographic services.
World Hydrography Day celebrations once again showcased Dubai Municipality’s leadership in using advanced marine data solutions to promote safer seas and smarter coastal development, contributing to the emirate’s vision of global best practices in maritime operations.
