Abu Dhabi Unveils First Personalised Weight Management Programme to Combat Chronic Diseases

  • 20/06/2025

Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) and Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC) have launched the region’s first Personalised Weight Management Programme, aiming to tackle rising rates of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and certain cancers.

The innovative programme combines digital health monitoring, customised clinical support, and a unique reimbursement model that incentivises sustained engagement and healthy lifestyle habits. Open to eligible Thiqa members aged 18 and above who are medically classified as overweight or obese, the initiative delivers individually tailored plans rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, emphasised that the focus is on holistic health improvement, empowering people to achieve sustainable weight loss and active living. Dr. Rashid Obaid Al Suwaidi, Director-General of ADPHC, highlighted that the programme bridges a crucial gap by offering clear pathways for doctors to guide patients and connect them to ongoing support through digital tools and continuous clinical follow-up.

This pioneering programme reinforces Abu Dhabi’s vision of fostering a proactive, health-conscious community and improving long-term health outcomes.
