Kuwait: For the second consecutive day, Kuwait’s electricity load index has reached a record high this summer, hitting 17,534 megawatts on Monday, surpassing Sunday’s peak of 17,087 megawatts. The Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy announced that the surge in demand, coupled with extreme temperatures reaching 51 degrees Celsius and the shutdown of three power generation units at the Doha East Power and Water Plant, has strained the grid.
To maintain the stability of the national electrical system, the Ministry warned it may implement controlled power cuts in certain industrial and agricultural areas. Affected industrial zones include Mina Abdullah, Subhan, Sulaibiya, Al-Rai, and Shuwaikh, while agricultural areas include Rawdatain, Wafra, and Abdali.
Engineer Fatima Hayat, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, confirmed that limited power cuts were carried out in parts of industrial areas, avoiding wider outages elsewhere. She urged the public to continue supporting the National Energy Conservation Campaign (Wafer) by minimizing electricity use, especially during peak hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., to help maintain grid stability and service reliability.
