UAE Announces Paid Islamic New Year Holiday for Private Sector on 27 June 2025

The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) has confirmed that Friday, 27th June 2025, will be an official paid holiday for all employees in the private sector, marking the Islamic New Year (Hijri New Year 1447 AH).

This aligns with the earlier announcement by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources, which declared the same day as a holiday for government employees, ensuring that both public and private sectors observe the occasion together.

The Islamic New Year, commemorating the Hijrah — Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) migration from Mecca to Medina — is a significant date in the Islamic calendar, symbolizing a new lunar year. While it is generally marked with reflection rather than large celebrations like Eid, it remains an important cultural and religious milestone in the UAE.

With the holiday falling on a Friday, private sector employees will enjoy a longer weekend, with regular business expected to resume on Sunday, 29th June.

MoHRE has urged all companies to comply with the directive and grant the paid leave in line with UAE labor laws, reinforcing the country’s dedication to preserving Islamic traditions and ensuring employee welfare through planned public holidays.
