New EU Entry/Exit System to Launch Fully in April 2026, Kuwait Advises Early Arrival

Kuwait's General Directorate of Civil Aviation has announced that the European Union's new Entry/Exit System (EES) will be fully operational on April 10, 2026. The system, which is being rolled out gradually at EU and Schengen Area borders, will replace manual passport stamps with digital registration. It is designed to enhance border security by electronically recording the entry and exit of non-EU travelers.

Under the new system, travelers will have their personal and biometric data—including fingerprints and facial images—recorded upon arrival and departure. This shift from a simple passport stamp to a digital biometric check is expected to significantly increase processing times at border control, especially during the initial implementation phase. The change will affect all travelers departing from Kuwait International Airport who are destined for European countries.

In light of these changes, Kuwaiti authorities are strongly advising all passengers to arrive at European airports at least three hours before their flight's departure. This extra time is recommended to ensure a smooth travel experience and to accommodate the new, more thorough border procedures. Travelers with connecting flights through a Schengen country are also advised to ensure they have a sufficient layover to avoid missing their connections due to potential delays.
