Etihad Rail will open its first passenger station in Sharjah near Sharjah University City, a strategic move to boost the emirate’s connectivity and economic growth. The station is expected to significantly benefit residents, particularly students and professionals commuting to remote areas, by providing efficient and rapid transit options.
The rail service, set to launch regular operations in 2026, will travel at 200 km/h and carry 400 passengers per trip. It aims to alleviate chronic traffic congestion on Dubai-Sharjah roads and offer seamless access to Sharjah International Airport for passengers from other emirates. The network will connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE, from Al Sila to Fujairah.
Once fully operational, Etihad Rail will drastically reduce travel times, including Abu Dhabi to Dubai in 57 minutes and Abu Dhabi to Fujairah in 105 minutes. While only four stations (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah) have been announced so far, the project underscores the UAE’s commitment to integrated, sustainable transportation.
Construction-related traffic restrictions are currently in place in Sharjah until month-end, including temporary closures near University Bridge. The project represents a transformative step in addressing urban mobility challenges, enhancing regional integration, and supporting long-term economic and social development.
