Kuwait’s Ministry of Health (MoH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has approved a comprehensive health and safety guide for salons, fitness centers, and personal care facilities. The new regulations include over 130 directives aimed at preventing infections, ensuring hygiene, and aligning with international health standards. Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi emphasized that the guidelines reflect Kuwait’s commitment to elevating public health and safety across service sectors.

Key measures include a ban on reusing razor blades or sharp tools, prohibiting permanent tattoo devices in salons, and restricting hair dyeing for children and tanning services for under-18s. Workers must remove jewelry during services and are barred from working if they have infectious or skin diseases. The guidelines also mandate sterilization protocols for all equipment and the exclusive use of licensed, traceable cosmetic products to minimize health risks.

Fitness centers must comply with stricter safety rules, including CPR-certified staff, on-site lifeguards, and health fitness certificates for all employees. Facilities with pools, saunas, or steam rooms must adhere to controlled chlorine levels and enhanced hygiene practices. The MoH announced a joint oversight committee with the Ministry of Commerce to monitor compliance and enforce penalties for violations.

These reforms mark a major step in Kuwait’s efforts to modernize health standards and reduce infection risks in public spaces. By regulating high-risk practices like tattooing and tanning, the government aims to protect vulnerable groups, including minors, while ensuring safer environments for workers and customers alike. The guidelines will be strictly enforced to uphold hygiene and accountability in the wellness and beauty industry.
