Saudi Arabia Simplifies Medicine Travel Rules: Now Get Digital Permits Online

  • 17/08/2025

Saudi Arabia has digitized the process for travelers carrying prescribed medications, making it easier to obtain necessary approvals before flying. The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) launched a new online system that lets passengers secure clearance permits for medicines, including strictly controlled narcotic and psychotropic substances. This initiative aims to streamline travel while maintaining strict safety protocols, ensuring patients can carry their required treatments without hassle.

Travelers can now apply for permits through the SFDA’s CDS portal (https://cds.sfda.gov.sa) from home or even via smartphone. The process involves creating an account, uploading essential documents such as the prescription, medical report, and medicine details, including dosage and ingredients. Once submitted, applicants can track their permit status online, and if approved, simply present the digital permit during their journey.

The SFDA emphasized that the system is designed to support patients and improve travel efficiency. By digitizing the process, Saudi Arabia reduces bureaucratic delays, ensuring travelers with medical needs can comply with regulations seamlessly. The portal provides clear guidelines, requiring details like the medicine’s commercial name, concentration, and packet size to ensure transparency and safety.

This move reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to enhancing visitor and resident convenience while upholding strict drug control laws. The new digital permit system eliminates the need for in-person approvals, making travel smoother for patients dependent on regulated medications. With this upgrade, the Kingdom continues to modernize its healthcare and travel policies, balancing accessibility with regulatory compliance.
