The Saudi Intellectual Property Authority has issued a stern warning regarding the unauthorized sharing of poems and other literary works on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. According to the authority, publishing or displaying literary content without the author’s prior consent constitutes a breach of copyright law.
In a recent case, an individual who recited a poem on their social media channel and used it for commercial gain was fined 5,000 Saudi riyals and required to remove the content immediately. The authority emphasized that such actions violate the Copyright Protection Act and may lead to further legal consequences.
The move aims to safeguard the rights of creators by preventing the unauthorized use and distribution of their artistic and literary works. Social media users are urged to seek permission from authors before sharing their content to avoid fines and legal penalties.
