New York: As tensions between Israel and Iran escalate, the US has issued a stern warning at the United Nations: any attack by Iran on American citizens, military bases, or assets will face a devastating response. Addressing the UN Security Council, McCoy Pitt, an official from the US State Department, said Israel’s strikes were an act of self-defense but stressed that Iran must not target the US in retaliation.
He reiterated that the US remains committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and ensuring stability in the Middle East. He also highlighted that ongoing nuclear negotiations with Iran are crucial at this moment.
Meanwhile, the US officially confirmed it has no military involvement in Israel’s strikes on Iran. However, former US President Donald Trump openly backed Israel’s actions, calling them the “right move” and warning of more attacks if necessary. Trump, however, declined to answer directly whether the US military played any role.
Iran has rejected Washington’s statements and insists the US had a direct hand in Israel’s attacks. In retaliation, Iran launched powerful ballistic missile strikes targeting major Israeli cities including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, causing reported casualties and damage.
