Muscat: Unseasonal heavy rainfall hit parts of Oman on the second day of Eid al-Adha, causing widespread disruption and property damage. In Musandam Governorate’s Niabat in Lima, the downpour led to severe flooding in wadis such as Wadi Al Qaba, Wadi Al Aqoob, Wadi Al Aq, and Wadi Al Qaseeda. Homes were damaged, roads collapsed, and traffic movement came to a standstill.
Hamad bin Ibrahim Al Shuhi, Director of Khasab Municipality, noted that the rare weather event led to major disruption in the Lima region. Areas including Al Sur, Al Sababa, Al Aqab, and Al Heena were among the worst affected. Municipal teams are actively working to reopen key routes and restore normalcy.
In Al Batinah South Governorate, moderate to heavy rain was recorded across various areas. Al Rustaq witnessed rainfall in its central region as well as in the villages of Falaj Al Sharah, Hajar Bani Omar, Wadi Bani Auf, and Wadi Bani Ghafir. Light rain also touched parts of Al Awabi, including Falaj Bani Qasir, Al Sahel, and Tahhab.
The sudden downpour has raised concerns about infrastructure resilience in the face of unpredictable weather events, prompting swift action from local municipalities.
